I have been a member of Farrell's since January 2009. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. My wife and my brother-in-law also helped with the my decision to join. At the start of the 10 weeks, I made up my mind I was going to give it 100% and get the best 10 week results possible. I have always led a very active life. I have run 3 marathons, along with too many ½ marathons, 8ks, and 5ks to count. I also keep very busy playing in softball and volleyball leagues. My ultimate success came down to bumping up the intensity and cutting down on the portion sizes of my meals. I ate healthy most of the time, but I just ate too much of it. The only way you can be successful with the nutrition plan is to plan ahead, as I did for a week at a time. All the so-called "secrets of success" will not work unless you are diligent about consuming 6 meals per day with lots of water.

My wife was a big part of my transformation. She made me go to class when my motivation was low and did a lot of the cooking that tasted great. By the end of the 10 weeks, I had lost 25 pounds (183 down to 158), got down to 10% body fat, lost inches everywhere, felt better than I ever had before, and was $1000 richer. Everyone has busy lives with jobs and/or kids, but you have to take the time for yourself. I never regret it when I come to class, but I always regret it when I don't. You should be doing this to improve your life. It is supposed to be fun and enjoyable; so if you are going to be in class and take the time to be there, you might as well make the most of it and give 100%. Nobody ever drowned in their own sweat. I enjoy being a coach and instructor for Farrell’s because I hope I can motivate other people to have the same success that I did.

I grew up in Cedar Rapids and was excited at the idea of moving back from Des Moines to open a Farrell's eXtreme Bodyshaping location. In June 2007 the Boyson Road location opened and we have since grown to a total of 5 locations in Eastern Iowa. Farrell’s is a program that has helped thousands of people and I’m proud to be a part of it. Our managers, coaches and instructors really set us apart. I can’t imagine a more rewarding way to spend my day!

Prior to Farrell's I was in Human Resources management and recruiting. Now I focus on all things Farrell’s; instructing, working with our team and day to day operations.

When I'm not at Farrell's you can find me cheering on our sons' at their many activities or maybe even running a race with them! We have four boys, ages 13, 11, 9 and 6.

 
I have always been a very active individual, playing sports all through high school and college. Once out of college, I continued to workout at various gyms and started taking a new interest in running. I was training for my third marathon when a hamstring injury sidelined me late in my training and I wasn't able to compete in the race. The next year I began training for my third marathon (again) when an IT band injury almost did the same thing, but I wasn't giving in this time - I struggled through the pain and ran the most uncomfortable race I had ever run. That following winter, I began to train again and once again suffered from an injury. I knew that I was missing something in my training that was causing all of these injuries and I needed to fix it! Not being able to train was not kind to my waist line either - I needed to make a change!
I joined Farrell's in October of 2010 - I had always worked out at the gym by myself and tried to fit in strength training, but had never pushed myself as I needed and would often skip strength training to get an extra run in. I knew that this was a major contributing factor to my recent injury streak. Farrell's was exactly the push I needed - the coaches and instructors were so motivating there was no way I was going to miss a class, I was always excited to see what we were going to do next! With the nutrition information added in, I was changing my training in more ways than just adding strength training and ended up being in better shape than I ever expected. Not only have I remained injury free since I joined, I have also cut my race times in each race since starting Farrell's!
Now, as an instructor and coach I love being able to help others achieve their goals - no matter what that may be. I firmly believe that if you follow the program and dedicate that hour each day to yourself and push your Level 10, you are able to do anything you want to do - no matter what shape you start in! Don't give yourself the chance to forget how good working out makes you feel!
I started my journey at Farrell's in September of 2013. I found myself at a plateau after losing 80 pounds(in over 3 years) and regular exercise at the local gym just wasn't appealing to me any longer. The kickboxing and resistance band training along with the nutrition program were just what I needed. Since starting the program, I've lost an additional 60 pounds. That's 140 pounds gone, and it feels amazing! In January of 2015 I became a coach and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my weight loss journey. Seeing participants go through the same struggles that I did and being that person that pushes them toward the finish just does something to me. You get that warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing that you're helping others become something better than they were before. It's so rewarding and powerful and I'm thankful every day that I get to be a part of it. In July of 2015 I decided to step up again and became a kickboxing and resistance band instructor. Teaching and leading my peers has really motivated me because I'm the example, and being a bad example just isn't an option.
I started the FXB program in July of 2014 with the help of my friend Meagan. If it were not for her, I would not be where I am today. She had done the 10-week program before and had amazing results winning the $1,000 contest, wanted to do it again and asked me if I would like to do it with her. I never ever thought about joining Farrell’s because it is “extreme bodyshaping” and surely it would be way too intense and impossible for me to participate in. I was very wrong! At the time, I was already working out 4-5 times each week in the fitness center at work, but it wasn’t really doing what I wanted it to do. So I decided to make the investment and do the 10-week program with my friend. And here I am……still doing it and loving it. Farrell’s has pushed me and has made me want to push myself. And I love all of the support within the Farrell’s ‘family.” There is always someone to talk to and ask for help, tips and advice.
Since that first kickboxing class in April, I have melted off 47 pounds, a total of 22 inches off of my body (so far), and have had an absolute blast doing so. If you had told me that I would be addicted to Farrell’s and that I would have made dozens of friends in the process, I would have told you that you were nuts. However, this is exactly what has happened...I have even grown to love doing things I never thought possible, like endurance races, hiking, and challenging my fellow classmates to fitness challenges outside of class. I can assure you that if you give yourself the chance to follow this program to the letter, open your mind to new experiences and step out of your comfort zone a bit, you will leave your old self behind.

Previously I had tried Weight Watchers, Atkins, my own exercise routine (so easy to go with the TOMORROW Workout when you are only accountable to yourself!), and various other failed attempts to control my weight, I have finally found the program that works...and I guarantee that it will work for ANYONE who tries it and gives it 100%. It is impossible for the Farrell’s program to fail if you just TRY. You will find yourself immersed in a group of like-minded individuals who will push you to find your level 10 and keep you there. It is this support system that gives you a 100% chance of success...all you have to do is try.

I started my Farrell's journey the January of 2013. Years before I started, I got into working out and eating healthy. I had lost 30 pounds. I ate some chocolate one day and eventually gained around 15 pounds back. I was on the Kennedy Varsity Dance Team throughout high school and was active with that, but not enough for what I was eating. I saw the results of my friends and wanted to do Farrell's really bad. But, I didn't have enough money or time. Senior year, my friend asked if I would do it with her. Christmas left enough money to pay for the 10 week session and dance team was slowing down so I decided to do it. The first day I came I and kickboxing kicked my butt, but I loved every second of it. I was so excited to go every day that I didn't make it an option to skip. Even with school, dance team, and work I would make sure I went. I didn't miss a day the whole 10 weeks and a few after. This program made me feel great. I was healthier than ever. I toned up quite a bit and my clothes fit a lot better. I only lost about 3 pounds in my 10 weeks but I lost 2% body fat and put on a bunch of muscle. I had to stop when I went to ISU for school. I tried working out there but I got bored running on the treadmill and the fitness classes couldn't compare. I decided to change my major to one that's not available there so I came back to CR to go to Coe. When I came back, I signed up for the year membership. The people at Farrell's are amazing and they are very encouraging. With being an instructor, I hope that I can push people and help them reach their goals like all of the instructors did with me through their classes!

Farrell's sets the tone for my day. If I can't get my workout in before going to work, my whole day is off. It's the one place I can go and work out my frustrations and leave it all behind me.
I love the family atmosphere of Farrell's. It's a place where people go work out and not be judged, People are always welcoming and supportive--they genuinely care about you. Lots of great friendships have been made here.
I have always been fairly active in my adult life; I belonged and worked at a fitness club for about 12 years. I actually met my husband there! My idea had always been “I work out to eat”, I LOVE to eat!!! However, I never really gained a ton of weight, I just never lost either. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to get in shape, get tone, and lose some weight but I never could get over the “eating” thing. I tried all kinds of diet pills or different kinds of diets. NONE of them worked. Last fall we had our first child and I promised my husband that I would let him lead my workouts for at least a month after I was able to work out again and that I would listen to him as far as nutrition went as well. HA! That never happened and for Christmas last year he got me a membership to Farrell’s. I was so excited but I was also like “Oh WOW, Farrell’s, can I do this”. The spring session rolled around and with my determination to show myself and my husband that I could do this and follow Farrell’s plan with the workout and the Nutrition. This plan has been the only thing ever that has worked for me, Farrell’s shows you how to work out hard and keep the nutrition simple with getting the amounts of carbs and proteins you need. With the help of Farrell’s, I lost weight, inches, and body fat and I am still losing!! But I have also gain confidence and a life time change for myself and my family. The spring session of 2012 I was the $1000 winner and started coaching the summer session. I love being able help and show people that with hard work and dedication you can do anything. If I can concur bad eating habits than anyone can!
I started Farrell's on January 7th 2012 because I had quit dancing due to some young girls and I had been dancing for 11 years so it was hard but then Farrell's helped me turn everything around. I had also realized I was very unhealthy and when I started it I knew I was going to turn my life around. I was only 16 and had a great transformation that I am so happy about. I lost 21ibs and 5% body fat plus inches everywhere. I realized it was time for me and only me to improve my health and I sure did.

I had heard Farrell's was hard and very intense and it for sure is but its fun also. You gain alot of friends and for sure get to know alot more exciting people! I love the atmosphere. The Edgewood location is by far my favorite and I would love if everyone could join its an amazing program!

My 10 week session at Farrell’s began in January of 2013, but my Farrell’s journey began earlier. My wife Melissa went through the first 10 week session of 2012. She was hooked fairly quickly and became a FIT member. At the same time, I began my own fitness regimen at home in our basement in front of the TV. And it wasn’t couch potato fitness, it was Insanity. It was a great program and I got into great shape, but it became a grind. I completed 3 sessions of Insanity (9 weeks each) in 2012 and towards the end it was difficult to stay motivated. Not to mention the wear I was causing to our basement carpet. Meanwhile, Melissa was having a great time with her new Farrell’s family. I got to know many of these amazing people by extension and so it was only a matter of time before I joined the party!

In December of 2012, after some strong encouragement (and a few beers) I agreed to give it a shot. I loved Farrell’s right away. There is no substitute for working out in a group setting. The Farrell’s team is so positive and they want to see you succeed! I love the variety; no two classes are the same. There is a social aspect to Farrell’s that is important to its success and you quickly find that there are a number of other people with similar goals and interests. Getting to know fellow 10 weekers and FIT members helps to keep you accountable to the program and on track towards reaching your goals.

I have always been health conscious. I have followed many different exercise plans and diets. At the end of my 10 weeks I was in the best shape of my life and it has been a joy for me to remain a part of the Farrell’s team.

I started Farrell’s with my husband in Jan 2009 as a way to help find my pre-pregnancy body and get into a consistent routine of working out again. Between a full-time job, raising a 3-year old and newborn, housework, and breast feeding, life had never been so chaotic. To keep my sanity, I needed to get some stability, relieve some stress, and get lean again. Mission accomplished. I’ve been a competitive athlete my entire life, but Farrell’s takes self-discipline, determination, and perseverance to another level. Every day you have the choice to challenge your body to push through weakness and doubt, and I embrace that challenge to the depths of my soul.
