I joined Farrell's ExtremeBody Shaping in October of 2015. I had been debating on whether I wanted to join for quite some time. My reasons for wanting to join were simply because I wanted to become healthier, lose weight, and control my diabetes. I am a nurse in the community and had heard about the success of others who were in the program. I saw firsthand the amazing transformations of patients that would come in and out of my office.
I was 20 years old and in my last semester of nursing school when I found out I was diabetic. I was studying for my last final and I didn’t feel well. I was tired and felt like I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I knew something was wrong. My blood sugar was over 300. I felt like my life was over. Sure, having diabetes isn’t the end of the world, but to me there are times off and on, where having a chronic illness seems daunting. I’ll be honest, I was a terrible patient at that time and I just didn’t put my health first.
I was a bit terrified to join Farrell’s in the beginning. I wasn’t scared of the hard work that I knew I was going to face. I was scared of meeting new people, being around healthier people than myself, and worried I was going to be made fun of or judged. I am shy, I am introverted, but I am strong. These worries were immediately put to rest. My experience at Farrell’s has been nothing short of amazing. The friends I have made are the type of people you always want in your corner. There are never any excuses and I cannot is not part of the vocabulary. I look forward to working out every night, or going to “recess” as my husband refers to it. I have never felt judged; I have never felt out of place. The environment is always so welcoming.
During my initial 10 weeks I had amazing coaches. They were always smiling, always positive, always working hard and doing their best. I immediately felt comfortable and felt like I had made some great new friends. My results were amazing! During my ten-week session, I lost nearly a total of 27 inches of my body, 20 lbs. and 3% body fat. However, what really changed for me during this time was my overall happiness, confidence and my mental toughness.
I believe that realizing that I was important was my first step towards changing. I knew something needed to change. I needed to worry about being healthy now rather than deal with all the potential health problems I could face in my future. In July of this year I had my routine blood work done at my physician’s office. This was the first time in a long time that I was excited to have my levels drawn. I am happy to report my hemoglobin A1C was 6.8. Between 4-6 is normal for non-diabetics and for diabetics the goal is to be below 7!
I can’t imagine my life without Farrell’s. On most days going to Farrell’s is the best part of my day. I am so happy I decided to join and I can see the positive changes in myself. I love pushing myself and seeing everyone else around me challenging themselves. For anyone who ever questions if they should join the program or not, I would say YES!!!
